An Update from Habeebah
“Each of us has that right, that possibility, to invent ourselves daily.
If a person does not invent herself, she will be invented.”
Maya Angelou
Greetings Beloved Friends,
There is so much to hold, so much to say in a world, and a nation, run by individuals who seek to undermine collective well-being and joy. As I write this I am holding onto the joy that comes from being in community with women who share my sense of purpose and passion for justice. But I am also holding onto the responsibility I feel to speak into this moment—to share a vision for how we heal and nurture our children in this system of things.
How do we possibly pursue healing at a time such as this—when injustice and violence are so prevalent and so many mothers are grieving immense loss?
I have always found healing in words. Whether reading or writing, words soothe me and help me find clarity. This moment is no different, so I am planning for a shift that will allow my words to reach more people with hopes that they will heal both those who have known me and those who have yet to find me.
With this intention in mind, I have created a Substack and will be shifting my messages to you, my beloved community, to that platform.
Please understand, I am learning as I make this change and will need your grace. It is my intention that subscribers to my website and Substack will receive outreach about each publication there and have an opportunity to engage with me either by email as is the case now, or by way of your personal Substack account. The writer in me is so excited to learn more about how to use and engage on this platform.
If you would like to read past blogs that have been shared to websites subscribers, you will find them here on my website.
Also, as I have shared previously, I made a pivot in my professional life recently, leaving behind my role as CEO of a beautiful youth-serving organization and venturing into entrepreneurship; writing is one of the ways that I will share about my journey. It will also be a primary way that I share the wisdom that emerges as I learn from this journey. Beyond this, I have plans to use my voice, quite literally, by sharing personal reflections in a podcast that will be available to paid Substack subscribers.
You can learn more about the work that I am delving into here. I welcome your thoughts about it and if you’re interested in any of my offerings, I’d love to talk with you!
I continue to be deeply grateful for the loving kindness of my village. You have nurtured my dreams, comforted my heart, and inspired me as a mother and as a leader. I hope that I have done the same for you. I also pray that you know how blessed I feel to find a home with you in friendship, scholarly interests, passionate advocacy, or in whatever way we have come into community. It is a joy and honor to travel together.
Peace and Blessings,
Habeebah
